Charlie and I had sat with Lea and Archer, keeping Nee company all afternoon while the doctors ran more tests. As it got later, Lea had fallen asleep in the chair and Nee was yawning every few minutes, which told me it was time to go. I moved to wake her, but then I had a better idea. Opening the door, I found who I was looking for, standing guard, where he’d been all day.

“Hey, Marshall. Can you give me a hand with sleeping beauty?”

His brows furrowed, and then, when his eyes landed on her, his lips curled into a small smile that made him look edible.

Striding toward Lea, he didn’t hesitate, sliding his hands under her and lifting her, bridal style, into his arms.

“I’ll see you guys tomorrow. Be good,” I said to Nee, pressing a kiss to her forehead.

She wrapped her hand around my wrist. “Look after her for me.”

“Promise.”

Marshall was waiting for me outside with Lea curled up against his chest, snoring lightly.

“Let’s hope you don’t get mobbed by fans. It might be a bit hard to protect you like this.”

“You want me to take her?”

He pulled her in tighter. “No, I’m good, but just be aware of your surroundings. The car is out front, so keep your head down and get straight in.”

“I know the drill.”

As we walked out of the doors, cameras flashed and people yelled my name as Dawson stepped out of the back of the car, holding the door as I climbed in and Marshall followed with a confused Lea who was now wide awake.

“Oh, my God, I’m going to be all over the papers tomorrow being carried out like that,” she complained, and I couldn’t help but laugh.

“They couldn’t see your face, Sugar. You were snoring into my chest.”

“You’ll just be my mystery woman, and they wonder what I did to you to make you pass out.” I winked.

“Where have you been?” Marshall asked, diverting his gaze to Daw as the car pulled away from the hospital to drive to the hotel we were staying in.

“I didn’t leave. I was in the car, working, waiting for you all.”

“Well, at least we know we don’t have to be in the same room with each other,” Lea pointed out before letting out a sad sigh.

“Sugar?” Marshall still had her in his lap, his arms tight around her waist.

“I guess we don’t need to sleep in the same room. At least you and Dawson can have some space.” She looked to me.

“Can’t get rid of me, Le, even if you want to. You’re in my bed.”

She smiled, but her eyes didn’t light up.
